Chronic Pain – Opioids or CBD
If you struggle with chronic pain, you’re probably familiar with pain medications called opioids. (also known as narcotics… oxycodone, Vicodin, morphine, etc.)
Maybe your doctor prescribed one of these for you at one point.
Did you know that 78 Americans die everyday from opioid overdoses? Although effective at relieving pain, these drugs are dangerous. And let’s not forget about the nasty side effects, like bowel-binding constipation. This isn’t your average constipation either. We’re talking about constipation so severe, your bowels can come to a screeching halt. Sometimes traditional laxatives and stool softeners aren’t even enough to get things moving.
And then there’s the risk you’ll turn into a murderer…
Wait, what!?
Believe it or not, a Scandinavian study showed that the likelihood you would commit MURDER goes up a shocking 223% when taking opioids! Now, the scientific merit of this study may be questionable, but interesting nonetheless. Plus there is the horrible addiction and withdrawal (they are all a derivative of heroin).
There are however, 2 important channels to consider for pain relief. One is opiod and all it does is block signaling. The other is Cannabinoid and it not only blocks the pain but does more…
It reduces inflammation as well so pain is reduced multiple ways. The “side effects” blocking this cannabinoid channel has, you ask? Calmness, and a sense of relaxation perhaps – if you were feeling anxious already – otherwise, you won’t notice any other effects. Not only does it not have any of the side effects of opioid painkillers, it actually makes opioid painkillers stronger! (you will have to take a lower dose of opiods if you are on them and in some cases get off them entirely!)
Your body has a recently discovered “endocannabinoid system” whose purpose it is to balance out your body, and help its systems communicate with each other.
This system needs CBD to “fuel” it. It’s pretty staggering, and has caused at least one prominent doctor to say “I consider it to be the most important dietary nutrient outside of water.”
And here’s a testimonial from a professor of internal medicine:
“Cannabinoids are effective in treating pain, nausea and vomiting, AIDS-related loss of appetite, and other symptoms and should be tested rigorously in clinical trials.” – Dr. John A. Benson (he eventually completely replaced opioid painkillers with CBD oil)
